Safe Pets is a unique program offered by PMHS for residents of Strafford County.

We understand that in moments of crisis, pets are often the silent victims. When families are faced with emergencies such as domestic violence, house fires, sudden hospitalization, or displacement, the safety of their animals can become an overwhelming concern.

To help bridge that gap, we offer Temporary Emergency Boarding for pets whose owners are experiencing short-term crises. This service is designed to provide a safe, confidential, and compassionate place for pets while their families work through an emergency and stabilize their situation.

Emergency boarding is intended for situations such as:

  • Domestic violence or unsafe living environments

  • House fires or sudden loss of housing

  • Emergency medical situations or hospitalization

  • Other unforeseen crises where pets cannot remain safely in the home

Pets in our emergency boarding program receive daily care, food, enrichment, and medical attention as needed, with the goal of reuniting them with their families as soon as it is safe to do so – a temporary safety net to keep families and their pets together during incredibly difficult times.

Safe Pets is on a case-by-case basis and is based off of avail kennel space for your pet(s).
