Dover Dog Howloween is a community celebration and gathering of dog lovers and owners dressed in family-friendly costumes with their canines. This unique event is the first of its kind in the downtown Dover area. Anticipated attendance is 1,000 people.
Dogs and their people will meet at Sit.Stay.Smile. Pet Photography’s parking lot located at 24 Chestnut Street in Dover between 12-1pm to register and receive a number for the costume contest. Pre-registration will also be available at the organization’s website DoverDogHowloween.com.
At 1pm, the costume parade will head up First Street to Central Avenue led by the Best in Show sponsor holding the official event banner. Between 1pm-2:30pm, participants will have the opportunity to trick-or-treat at participating businesses on Central Avenue. Their participation will be marked with a #DogFriendlyDover sign in the window.
Three judges will be wandering around in the crowd and will decide the winners of the best Dog Team Costume, Scariest Costume, and Funniest Costume, and Best in Show from the winners of the first three categories.
During this time, participants and spectators are also invited to visit vendor booths located in Cocheco Mill Courtyard, food trucks for humans and dogs and the beer garden.
At 2:30pm, all contestants will gather at Cocheco Mill Courtyard for announcement of the winners. Cash prizes will be awarded. Must be present to win.
Dover Dog Howloween is the community outreach creation of Sit.Stay.Smile. Pet Photography and It Takes a Village Pet Care. Both companies are passionate about giving back to the community and decided to join forces and collaborate for this 1st annual event. All proceeds benefit Pope Memorial Humane Society (formerly Cocheco Valley Humane Society).
