PMHS has a great humane education program that allows us to share our love and knowledge of animals with our community at elementary schools, retirement homes, the Children’s Museum, local businesses, and really anywhere that wants to bring us in to talk about what we do and why it matters. With the new COVID-19 guidelines in place, we aren’t able to get out into the community anymore, but we thought we could share some resources here that will hopefully make things a little easier for all of the parents who are homeschooling for the first time right now.
HEART (Humane Education Advocates Reaching Teachers) provides services designed to combine a focus on social justice, animal protection, and environmental preservation. These lessons can significantly impact the way young people think about their responsibility to one another, animals, and the natural world. HEART is currently offering its library of high-quality lessons and activities for grades PreK-12 free of charge.
In addition to HEART’s incredible library of lessons, we’ve collected some other helpful resources from around the web that can help you supplement a day of learning or just provide some boredom relief to your kids (or yourself!).
Switchzoo lets your child make and play games, build biomes and habitats, and learn all about animals.
National Geographic Kids offers some great resources focusing on animals, geography, history, and science.
The Smithsonian’s Kids & Teens website brings your child everything from live video of the National Zoo to fun crafts, coloring pages, science experiments they can do from home, and interactive games that will help them learn.
Cool Kid Facts gives your child access to educational videos, pictures, quizzes, downloadable worksheets, and infographics. They can use these to learn about geography, history, science, animals, and even the human body.
The San Diego Zoo has a website just for kids with amazing videos, activities, and games.
I think we all know that kids tend to learn best when they have the opportunity to move, play, and get their energy out. Sworkit provides kid-friendly workouts to get your kids moving. Choose from Strength for Kids, Agility for Kids, Flexibility and Balance for Kids, Warm-Up for Kids, Cooldown for Kids, Stand Up and Move for Kids, OR create your own custom kid workout.
