We Need Your Help!
On February 26th, a sweet dog was found wandering along Route 16 in the middle of the night, braving the bitter cold. She had no collar or tags, but the officer who picked her up said she was incredibly friendly—grateful to have someone rescue her from the freezing temperatures.
When she arrived at our shelter, our team welcomed her with warm blankets, cozy beds, and a fresh bowl of food and water. She quickly won our hearts, greeting staff and volunteers with a wagging tail and carrying her new toys to say hello. After a required seven-day stray hold, no one came forward to claim her. So, we gave her a name that matched her sizzling personality—Fajita! A perfect mix of flavors: energetic and eager for an adventure, but just as happy to snuggle up and relax.
Once it was clear Fajita’s people weren’t coming forward, our team took over and set out to prepare her for adoption. Unfortunately, we hit our first challenge. She was not spayed and had two concerning mammary masses that needed removal. Then, after receiving a routine vaccination, she suffered a sudden reaction—collapsing, breathing heavily, and vomiting. Thanks to our quick-thinking medical team, she pulled through.
Her surgery to remove the masses and spay her went smoothly, and she recovered well, bouncing back to her joyful self—once again greeting everyone with toys in tow. But this past Sunday, things took a turn for the worse.
Our medical team discovered a spay site dehiscence, a serious complication where part of her intestine had become exposed due to an incision opening. This condition can be life-threatening, and given her age and previous surgeries, our team knew there was no time to waste. Fajita was rushed to Broadview Animal Hospital for emergency surgery.
Thankfully, the procedure was a success! Fajita is now recovering in the care of our Medical Manager and already showing signs of her happy, loving self.
Help Us Give Fajita the Second Chance She Deserves
The cost of her life-saving surgery was significant, but there was never a question—we would do whatever it took to save this special girl. She has endured so much and deserves a chance to find a loving forever home.
Fajita has a long road to recovery ahead. She’s currently on three medications and requires round-the-clock care to prevent infection. For the next two weeks, she’ll need to limit her activity, wear a cone to protect her healing incision, and be closely monitored for any complications. Thankfully, one of our dedicated vet assistants is fostering her, ensuring she gets the care, comfort, and love she needs during this critical healing period. With time and support, we know she’ll bounce back stronger than ever!
Fajita has so much love to give, and we can’t wait to see her find a family of her own. Please consider donating to help cover her surgery and aftercare as we work to get her healthy and ready for adoption. Every dollar makes a difference in giving Fajita the future she deserves.
